Flashcards activities

A continuación presento una lista de actividades, juegos y posibilidades para trabajar con flashcards.

• Basic presentation of vocabulary by means of flashcards (L) X1 Unit 4

​

• Guessing game to present the vocabulary (L and S) It can be with real materials (School materials, clothes…)

  • Groups of 5 competition (roles of representors) X3

  • All the classroom X1

  • Magic box: “I’ve found a magic box and there is something inside” (agitamos lacaja), “Think about what is inside the magic box” “Can you guess it?” Students: “Is it an… animal?” – No, It isn´t/yes, it is!!!”

• What`s the weather like today?. Teacher shows weather flashcards and students have to say: It is…sunny/cloudy/rainy/cloudy/windy X1

• Hide and seek (4/5 groups or all the group)Numbers/words/colors/drawings…(S or R and W) X4

  • Say aloud the missing word (speaking)

  • Write the missing word (reading/writing)

• Crazy teacher (L and S)

• Join the flashcards with their corresponding wordcards. In groups. Win the group who finish earlier and have less mistakes. (R)

• Pictionary. One student draw a flashcard and the rest of the group have to guess which one is and say it aloud in English. (S) X1

• Mummer. The same as Pictionary but doing mimic instead of drawing.(S) X2

• Sunrise. The first of a group of piled flashcards is upside-down covering the rest. Starting from the bottom, teacher shows how flashcards appears slowly and progressively. First student or group who guess which is this flashcard wins a point. (S) X2

• Basketball. Two big groups will have to score a basket with a color balls, one per line. The student who score the basket will be able to take a flashcard a say it aloud the name of it. If it doesn’t score the basket this student will go to the end of his group que and it will be the turn of his/her partner.(S) X1

• Fishing Flashcards. (S) Putting a Clip in the flashcards that will be in the floor (the sea/ocean) and creating a “fake” fishing rod with an imam in the extreme of a lace/cord tied to the extreme of a stick. This can also be done without the fishing rod, throwing something solid and small that will have to fall inside the flashcard. The students that fish the flashcard have to say it aloud. If it is right, he/she will receive a point. 

• Handkerchief (“pañuelito”). With flashcards (L) of wordcards (L and R) X2

• Treasure Hunt (“Yincana?”)

• Match (R) El profesor tiene dos montones, uno con las flashcards (tarjetas con imágenes) y otras con wordcards (tarjetas con las palabras escritas), y vamos mostrando al mismo tiempo dos flashcards, una de cada montón y en el momento que coincidan dibujo con palabra tienen que decir Match, el primero que lo diga se lleva las dos flashcards y así con todas. Gana el que más flashcards haya conseguido reunir.

• Repetition Game. 1st phase: Teacher names the flashcards located in the blackboard with bluetac. 2nd phase: Teacher names the flashcards and students repeat.. 3rd phase: teacher repeat each flashcard three times and students do the same. 4th phase: only students (all the group at the same time) pronounce all the flashcards one by one, in order. 5th phase: More speed is added. 6th phase: teacher point the flashcards that will be pronounce in the inverted direction. 6th phase: Teacher point alternatively flashcards progressively faster.

• The Reading Road. (R) (Ampliar para leer) Este juego es muy adecuado para los grupos de infantil que están empezandoa leer y que escriben con dificultades. Son dos los principales objetivos de este juego, el primero es practicar el hábito de lectura de izquierda a derecha y el segundo objetivo mejorar la pronunciación de los sonidos de cada letra y como se juntan estos para formar palabras Este juego que no mes para nada fácil para los alumnos les ayudará en el futuro a la hora de leer en inglés. Para llevar a cabo dicho juego necesitamos wordcards (tarjetas con letras y con palabras), por ejemplo como la que podemos ver a continuación. En este caso yo he hecho cuatro palabras, sun, red, son y sad y por supuesto también he hecho las flashcards con letras que conforman esas palabras. Opcionalmente podemos usar un cochecito de juguete o un play mobil o algo similar para que avance por la carretera que los propios alumnos van a hacer a medida que vayan pronunciando letras y palabras. Debemos motivar al alumno y para ello vamos a decirles que hay una palabra oculta y que ellos tienen que encontrar. Para descubrir de qué palabra se trata hay que unir las diferentes letras, pronunciándolas hallarán la respuesta. A medida que vayan superando con éxito cada sonido de cada letra el muñequito o el cochecito va avanzando hacia la palabra oculta. Por supuesto al final, si descubren la palabra oculta seles puede recompensar, por ejemplo con una pegatina que ponga algo así como Well done!!! Great!!! o similar. Si tenéis más tiempo y queréis algo más llamativo podéis hacer una medalla en forma de manualidad, queda original y ellos los aprecian mucho.

• Flash Review: (S) Flash es un juego sencillo, muy sencillo pero atraerá la atención de todos tu salumnos. Se trata de mostrar una flashcard de forma rápida, muy rápida, sólo una pasada, pero tan rápida que parezca precisamente eso, la luz de un flash, que los alumnos sólo puedan intuir lo que muestra. Los alumnos por supuesto tienen que adivinar lo que se muestra en la flashcard. Para hacerlo más interesante podéis hacer grupos, veréis que divertido. X1

• Whisper (Telefonillo con Flashcards). (L and S) El que primero de la fila elige una flashcard o wordcard se la dice al oído al siguiente compeñero, así sucesivamente. el último que recibe la palabra tiene que escribirla en la pizarra y comprobar que es la misma palabra que la flashcard que eligió su compañero.
